Natural cosmetic products with micro silver – against itching and bacteria

We use micro silver in the products of our silver line. We do NOT use nano-silver in our products which is suspected to penetrate into the skin.

Difference between micro silver and nano silver

Particles of highly porous silver have a size between 5 and 20 µm and thus are about 1000 times bigger than nanoparticles. Because of its size, these silver particles cannot penetrate into the skin and are ideal for topical applications. Silver is included in ointments for external application – so also in the BIOTURM products. When applying, the micro silver conjoins with the skin’s proteins. The silver ions released remain in the upper dermal layers where they are neutralised. Studies did not show any deposits or traces of silver ions in deeper dermal layers. The product can be used on irritated skin areas without any concerns.

Nano silver

In contrary to highly porous silver, nano silver is much smaller and thus can penetrate into the skin. There are no final studies about possible accumulation in case of regular use.

Effect of micro silver

Micro silver is a special form of pure silver with a spongy increased surface. Due to the large surface, bacterial and viral germs as well as fungicides can be bound and rendered harmless. Besides the ability to bind harmful germs on the skin, the soothing effect of silver on irritated skin has been known for years. Micro silver has excellent properties: it has antipruritic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimycotic effects. Therefore it is used successfully in therapy-related care of neurodermatitis and psoriasis and in case of impure skin.

Mikro silver in nature

Micro silver is not harmful or dangerous for waters or the environment. Silver is a precious metal with natural resources not causing any environmental problems. The quantity of silver getting into the waste water is very small. Free silver ions can only be found for a short time, they immediately bind with proteins in waste water. From that point they are inert and not harmful for the organisms in sewage works.

Production

Micro silver is physically made of pure silver (special vacuum technique) and thus does not contain any chemical impurities. Due to this special technique, further steps to eliminate cytotoxic chemical residues are not required; that’s why it is perfectly suitable for application in medicine, cosmetics and food.

Silver ointment no.33

Care for reddened and itchy skin. We have combined micro silver with zinc (a proven active ingredient) and have thus created the product Silver ointment no.33 which cares for and calms damaged, chappy or itchy skin. Pure vegetable oils provide the skin with high-quality lipids and moisture. Irritations are soothed, the skin calms down. The ointment is applicated locally to affected skin areas. It reduces reddening, cares for the skin and makes it smooth again. Problematic skin gets what it needs to recover and remain healthy. Due to the antibacterial effect of silver, our ointment also improves the skin appearance of teenager's skin problems (impure skin / acne). The silver we are using is micro silver which cannot penetrate into the skin because of its size; it remains on the skin until next cleaning. We are NOT using nano silver. Tip: For larger skin areas, we recommend our Silver lotion no.36 which can be spread more easily due to its lighter consistency. Silver lotion no.36

Light lotion with micro silver for application on larger problematic skin areas.
